In this redesign project, our goal is to design new functions to empower participants’ engagement.

(While participating Design-A-Thon held by UX east meets west & ACC)
Participants would be easily bored & distracted in a virtual event, thereby reducing the willingness to donate.
For non-profit organizations, online fundraising events are a significant source of funds and also involve the organization’s social impact. Therefore, making participants maintain a high degree of participation is crucial to the development of an NPO.
We understand that participants may lose interest in the event at the early, middle and after stages. Therefore, we provided corresponding solutions for different stages of the event:
Pre-event: Topic Voting & Discussion Board
These two functions allow the participants and the speakers to gain understanding of each other before the event. Participants can vote for the speakers’ topics they are most interested in. Also, they can discuss with other participants who have the same interest to increase their expectations for the event.
Event: AR Face Filter & Realtime Poll
For participants who do not want to open the camera in an online event, we designed an AR filter to encourage them to open the camera to participate in the event freely. The real-time voting activities can enhance the interaction and communication between the speakers and the participants so that the events are not just one-way sharing.
After-event: Contribution Bar
After the event, we convert the participant’s participation (number of messages, number of votes, number of speeches, donation amount) into a visualised contribution bar. We believe that participation is more important regardless of the amount of donation!
The Design Method we adopt: Design Sprint
Because of the tight schedule, we adopted Design Sprint to redesign the ACC Magic interface.
Enhance Understanding
A. Interviewees
a. 2 ACC members – insights within the NPO
b. 1 NGO Event Planner – insights on how NGOs raise money
B. Stakeholders
a. The host organisation (ACC)
b. Speakers
c. Sponsors
d. General donors (participants)
Ideate
Step 1: Use HMW exercises in workshops in order to …
• capture problems
• prioritise problems
• decide which problem to solve based on viability
Step 2: Come up with solutions by …
• ideated a mass of solutions and prioritised solutions
• drew the user journey
Decide
We decide on our final solution based on the Effort/Impact scale.
Wireframe
Prototype
Test
Our mentor reminded us to confirm the two aspects of feasibility and viability because they are highly related to the development of the product. After discussing, we went back to thinking about expanding sponsors’ exposure and the influence of activities. Therefore, we highlighted one of our solutions- the AR filter is the best solution because it meets the needs of sponsors and is easy to share on social media.
